Ingredients:

  • 1 cup black glutinous rice (Pulut Hitam)
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 pandan leaves (tied in a knot)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (or to taste)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup thick coconut milk
  • A pinch of salt

How to cook:

  • Wash the black glutinous rice under running water until the water runs clear to remove any excess starch.
  • In a pot, combine the rice, water and pandan leaves. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the rice becomes soft and the mixture thickens.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, white sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  • Mix well until the sugars dissolve completely.
  • Pour in the thick coconut milk and continue to simmer on low heat for another 5-10 minutes, or until the porridge reaches the desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly before serving.
